Abstract

Death played a central role in the configuration of collective mentality in the catholic world of the Early Modern Age. This article studies the conduct of Salamanca Cathedral clergy at the time of their own death: their religious devotions, their relationships with family and friends, inheritors, etc. The funeral ceremonies of bishops, canons and priests are analysed as well as the orders undertaken for the sake of their soul's brief passage through purgatory.
