Abstract

This paper returns to some topics that have been analyzed by different researchers regarding the Acedemy-Norma relationship in order to offer an overview that can guide acomplete historiographical study of this complex matter. The focus will be on the norma-tive role played by the RAE through its grammatical work published in the 19th century, although determining the normative meaning of these texts make it necessary to attend to the work of the royal institution and its weight in the context of our grammatical tradition since the last third of the 18th century, once the first edition of the Grammar (1771) was published.
