Abstract
This paper is centred on the study of the Vigilantius' role, whose activity and ideologic and spiritual positions can be tracked in references that Hieronymus provides. For understanding his historical importance it is necessary to take into account the context against what Vigilantius says: these are the first moments of the cult of the martyrs and saints, and starting from the keys of this phenomenon we can study an opposed manifestation (Vigilantius).
