Resumen
Melanoma is a neoplasia of melanocytes. This tumor has a great invasive and metastatic potential. So, it has a low survival rates when it is diagnosed in advanced stages. There are multiple experimental animal models of cutaneous melanoma, showing a possible link between ultraviolet radiation and the development of melanoma. The incidence of cutaneous melanoma continues growing worldwide. There are international epidemiological studies confirming this trend. As a result of this epidemic, there have been many attempts to develop experimental models reproducing the biology of this neoplasm. Caceres region receives one of the highest levels of ultraviolet radiation from Spain, so it can be considered a representative sample of areas with high solar ultraviolet radiation. This study analyzes the rates of cutaneous melanomas diagnosed in Caceres for a period of 10 years, between 2002 and 2011. It also specifies the influence of the intensity of ultraviolet radiation on the type of cutaneous melanoma.
