Abstract

Unfortunately, there is a growing awareness of the cases of crimes committed in the cabins of Spanish ambulances and, therefore, it is necessary to take into account the implications that such events have from a double point of view: on the one hand, from the protection of the healthcare professionals working in them against possible false reports and, on the other hand, from the protection of patients against possible abuse in the event of a delinquent healthcare provider. This article begins with a brief introduction to the problem addressed. Subsequently, the main results obtained in our exploratory research are presented, in which the most relevant data are observed, extracted from a survey implemented at national level (of personal design and collection), carried out between April and June 2018, and which show the pressing problem in the sector from the perspective of health professionals. Likewise, an analysis of the current legal options is being carried out to consider the option of using video recording systems on board emergency medical units in Spain, in order to prevent and react with full guarantees to such crimes. Finally, we conclude with the main challenges and opportunities arising from this option, once we have detected the serious problem of insecurity in the provision of emergency care by healthcare professionals in Spain.
