Resumen

For years, the attention has been paid on the aging population and in actions to change the demographic challenge into a development opportunity which can enable the elderly active participation. Traditional models and ways of retirement are beginning to change; aging is not seen as a period of weakening any more but as time of personal enrichment and leisure that can be filled satisfactorily, developing an educational leisure where the elderly represent a precious intellectual capital that should be taken into account. The results that we have obteined from satisfaction surveys and previous evaluations collected from the students of the Interuniversity Experience Program for Seniors of the University of Burgos (UBU), along with our teaching experience in the subject “Performing Arts”, have enabled us to discover their great interest in improving their musical training, that is why we stress that knid of contents. This approach to music promoted by the subject, generates their desire to develop a deeper knowledge and to increase their participation in different aspects of it, which can be answered from Music Schools created specifically for seniors. The subject of “Performing Arts” have to continue in the curriculum of the Program because the students show great interest in it and also because it contributes to greater leisure enjoyment and to the possibility of creating new businesses.
