Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the difficulties presented by the students of an Education Degree to develop teaching sequences using a teaching by inquiry methodology. Therefore, a total of 157 teaching programs -developed by students of 4th degree course- have been analysed by implementing two instruments, EIMA and RTOP, which have been tailored to the objectives described above. As a result, only 34% of the teaching sequences have the potential to develop an inquiry. The study revealed the tendency of conceiving teaching by inquiry as hand-on lab activities that are decontextualized in most cases due to the dichotomy between the theoretical framework and the educational practice.
