The present work aims to show the strict relation existing between the monarchic government authorities and those defining the highest levels of the Catholic hierarchy regarding the justifyng ideology of power in Visigothic Merida. Both Government and Church officcials had common models that they applied symbolically in the rites and ceremonies they adopted and that they also used in their confrontations and/or alliances.
