Abstract
Involvement of emotion, through decision-making, is analyzed in relation to the prognosis and treatment of anorexia nervosa. The disease and its historical evolution are described, as well as the different co-morbid disorders that can affect the cognitive alterations observed in this illness. Also presented are studies that relate prefrontal lesions and difficulties in making decisions as a basis for understanding the process underlying the cognitive deficits observed in anorexia nervosa, and that could be mediated by a dysfunction in emotional processing.
