Resumo
The aim of this paper is to analyze the remittances sent by Latin American immigrants from Spain. We consider migrant remittances play a central role in the relationship between migrants and their family. Using microdata from the Spanish National Immigrant Survey 2007, we analyze the personal characteristics of migrants, their family status and their integration process in Spain as determinants of remittance transfers. The main findings are the following: first, the explicit agreement between the migrant and his family is very important in order to ensure the flow of resources, although there are strong differences between sexes due to the greater involvement of women in family projects; second, the integration process in the receiving society affects and limits the transfer of remittances, particularly in case of family reunification; third, there are important differences according to the region of origin of migrants, which is related to different migration projects.
