Abstract
This paper reviews the musical activity related to the University of Salamanca in the second half of the eighteenth century. The work focuses on the relationship of the music chapel of the University with other local chapels, as well as on its contribution to the urban musical life, both in sacred and secular environments. It also analyses the role of the Chair of Music in this context, and its difficulties to adapt to the university reform plan of Charles III of Spain and, above all, to the proposals of the enlightened sector of the staff of the University of Salamanca, which finally caused its extinction.
