Abstract

In Cantabria, area with high prevalence of mite allergy, allergic patients to Dermatophaghoides pteronyssinus frequently present sensitization to L. destructor. We included 101 patients with allergy to Dermatophaghoides pteronyssinus, whom underwent conventional diganosis (prick test and spcecific IgE agains whole extracts) and were analyzed for molecular sensitization profile (IgE against Der p1, der P2, Der f1, Der f2, Lep d2, blo t5, der p10 and Pen a1). A number of patients with positive conventional test not present sensitization to corresponding major allergens, especially in the case of L. destructor, questioning the real diagnosis and utility of immunotherapy. Taking as a reference the presence of sensitization to the relevant major allergens were established cut points in the conventional diagnosis (mean diameter wheal on skin tests and specific IgE levels) with an optimal relationship between sensitivity and specifity.
