Resumen
The presence of thousands of foreign volunteers in the Internacional Brigades was a remarkable event. They became a living example of the internationl solidarity and the unselfish dedication to the antifascist cause. Their participation in the most decisive battles of the Spanish Cvil War was from the very beginning surrounded by a mythical aura that got larger due to the publication of their autobiographies, personal narratives, journals and even autobiographical novels. All this material followed in many ways the "official history" that many researches devote to their role. There were other volunteers whose ideals freedom and equality were shattered and felt completely disappointed with their experience condemning the lack and the Soviet manipulation. This is the case of Laurie Lee and William Herrick; both give a desolate report of their experience as fighters.
