The reuse of treated wastewater has been identified as a highly relevant alternative water source. However, at both European and Spanish level, water reuse is still very incipient. In spite of this , there are territories such as the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community where reused water has acquired strategic importance for agriculture. With the aim of promoting the safe use of reclaimed water, the European Union has adopted Regulation 2020/741/ EU which presents some differences in relation to the standards defined by Spanish regulation (Royal Decree 1620/2007).
