Abstract

The goal of this paper consist in presenting the obtained data in a recent study in which the GENCAT Scale was applied together with a complimentary one that was composed of 40 additional items to assess quality of life of social service users. These items, as the GENCAT Scale’s ones, were thirdperson formulated, included objective quality of life aspects, and were answered with four answer options (‘always or almost always’; ‘often’, ‘sometimes’, ‘never or almost never’). The goal of including these additional items was to collect new evidences to improve the psychometric properties of the GENCAT Scale in a near future (i.e., adding new items that allowing to better discriminate between social service recipients, specially between those showing higher quality of life levels). The data analyses by means of Classical Tests Theory (CTT), the Item Response Theory (IRT), and the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), offer a new solution in which the inclusion of a few additional items allow to considerably improve psychometric properties of the instrument.
