Resumen
The particularities of the indexation of images are based on the dichotomy: real and denotative versus imaginary and connotative, which are the characteristics that contribute to the complexity of this process. The subjectivity that characterizes the indexation adds the explicit and implicit details of the image. Thus, the application of a standard and the use of specific terminology are essential. Amongst the terms to describe an image, the multi-word term stands out to represent the specificity. It is proposed to contribute to the study of the multi-word term in the indexation of images, through the analysis of its use in indexing a collection of illustrated postcards (1940-1960), comparing this practice with the forms considered in NF Z 47-200 (1985). It was based on an exploratory qualitative method, based on literature review and an empirical research. For the analysis of the data, we used the techniques of content analysis and comparative analysis, due to the relevance that assume in the interpretation of the data, in qualitative context. The results show that the use of the multi-word term, in general, coincides with the theoretical and methodological principles recommended by NF Z 47-200 (1985), also reveal the incoherence and inconsistency in the application of the multi-word term in its structure. It is inferred that the multi-word term must be used in the indexation of images, particularly in illustrated postcards, since it allows to represent the specific. It was concluded that it is necessary to apply the norms to harmonize the representation of the specificities of this information resource.
