Abstract

The composition of experimental melts of the Ollo de Sapo gneiss and leucogranites and leucosomes of the migmatitic region of Sanabria (major and REE elements) is compared. The conclusions of our work point that melting in Sanabria occurred under water-present conditions, according to the low P-T peak metamorphic conditions in Sanabria and to the large volumes of melt present as leucosomes. Also, the melting of the Ollo de Sapo gneiss took place in a probably homogeneous deformational behaviour of the migmatitic core of the Sanabria region because only minor segregation has been observed. Finally, the REE composition of leucosomes present in pressure tails of K-feldspar phenocrysts indicates that they are not pure liquid compositions but a mixture of liquid and metamorphic quartz. These conclusions are very interesting and show that the melting processes in Sanabria are complex and require a more detailed research.
