Abstract

The pearlitic steel is a key element in civil engineering, subjected during its life in service to fatigue loading under diverse environmental conditions. For this reason it seems to be interesting the analysis of the stress-strain states generated by service load at stress concentrators such as cracks and their implications in hydrogen assisted cracking (HAC) processes. In the present paper the hydrogen assisted by stress and strain fields was analyzed at the crack tip in pre-cracking samples under different fatigue levels and subjected to a constant load. This way the role of residual stress and strain fields generated by pre-cracking will be reflected in the hydrogen distribution within the material.
