Abstract

1984 and La Fundación introduce Winston and Tomas, respectively, fighting against a power who steals freedom from them and who pretends to strip them of their humanity. These texts are not only a response to abusive political regimes of XXth century, but they invite to reflect on the construction of any society. However, they set different situations and social views. Winston starts having a monitored life, but he has movement freedom; and Tomas is always locked up. Nevertheless, the latter has thought freedom that avoids the dehumanization that Winston experiences. These texts show the crisis of modernity, in which the absence of a defined paradigm disorients and unprotects individual against the social demands and abuses.
