Resumen

The evolution in their opportunities for social inclusion is intimately related to advances in research, but also and especially with the changes produced in the conception of disability that the social model provides, and the importance of considering environments as essential allies in the effective exercise of the rights of the people. In this article we collect the new definition of intellectual disability and development, already fully integrated into the programs, policies and practices and interventions in this specific field of disability. And we look at how organizations of the third sector of disability in Spain are facing the challenges of change demanded by a new way of including intellectual disability, based on the wishes and life projects of each person.
