Resumen

When Father Francisco Ximénez arrived in Guatemala, the evangelization of the indigenous people was very advanced and perhaps for this reason researches always wanted to see a clear Christian influence in the version of the Popol Vuh that Ximénez transcribed, assuming that the Mayan religion was pagan and heretical and took as its own many elements of the Catholic. However, when we approached the text with the current tools and technique several centuries later, we can see that these relationships go beyond Catholicism and we can confirm that certain myths appear in distant cultures in space and time, and whose connection even today is difficult to prove. For that reason we consider necessary the rereading of the text from its original manuscript (now available in photographic version on the Internet), and not from more or less free editions, in search of clues that help us to understand much better the Mayan culture and influences (if there were any) of the Christian doctrinal texts on the legends of the Mesoamerican peoples.
