Resumo

Specific firm research literature has shown in the last years a growing interest in the aspects concerning to the occupational segregation in top jobs. Among other reasons, this is a consequence of the considerable and increasing demographical diversity that workforce presents in general, question that it could particularly be appreciated at the organisational level. Despite to the influence of some environmental issues, previous empirical evidence suggests that there are various firm-level factors, including financial and economical variables, which have effects on the range that can reach the unbalanced participation of demographical groups in the top executive jobs and also can affect to the gender composition of the board of directors. In this paper, we make a comprehensive review of the multiple theoretical perspectives that offers a way to establish a linkage explaining such a suggested association. On this background, we also make some empirical analyses using a broad sample of Spanish firms. The results of our statistical analyses support the conclusion that some specific firm factors are significant. However, these findings differ with the evidence presented in some previous works
