Abstract

Based on consideration of new product development as dynamic capability, this paper identifies the various options that this process can present and analyzes their potential impact, integrating contributions scattered and sometimes contradictory observed in recent literature. As main conclusions, it is recommended to companies and in particular to SMEs, that considering the process of new product development as a way of learning and renewal to face dynamic environments, select the option most appropriate to the environmental conditions. Ultimately, the paper highlights the benefits of combining new knowledge with what they already know and have.
