Abstract
Diego Figuera Aymerich has been an important Spanish surgeon who lived in the last century. Its very interesting life, full of special events, developing an unconventional path that includes his hard beginnings that forced him to develop different works as a mason or electrician, performing both medical studies. He later trained as a surgeon in Spain, England and the United States. He made career at the University, to reach Professor he held at the University of Zaragoza and later at the Autonomous University of Madrid. However, his life is vinculad the Hospital Puerta de Hierro in Madrid in which he participated in its foundation. Excellent surgeon, propeller cardiac transplantation, inventor of circulatory support systems, heart valves and other surgical devices, has represented the figure of a unique professional who has contributed brilliantly to the development and consolidation of the Spanish surgery and especially heart .
