Zusammenfassung

Market offers numerous irrigation systems in order to achieve stand establishment and to avoid the replacement of dead plants due to water stress. This paper determines the global and pure technical efficiency of the most used irrigation systems by means of the nonparametric method of data envelopment analysis (DEA). The DEA method is applied to both individual irrigation systems and hydraulic principle of water delivery. The input variable are the installation unit cost and the output variable the water application efficiency. The input data are obtained by bibliographic review. The results indicate that there are differences in the technical efficiencies of irrigation systems available in the market. Conventional irrigation systems are operating outside the scale of the sector, they present technical inefficiencies. The technical efficiency of irrigation systems is valuable information to guide manufactures and inventors in the production and design of their systems, and for afforestation planners, to whom it provides a criterion for choosing the most technically efficient irrigation technology in establishment of wooded or shrubby stands.
