Zusammenfassung
Thanks to the documentation of the Ensenada Cadastre you can analyze how was the economy of a locality located in the heart of Castilla as Nava del Rey in the province of Valladolid. Thanks, among others, to the data collected in the Respuestas Generales of 1752,the importance of the agrarian sector in its economy can be precisely specified. Although the cultivation of cereal, especially rye, was the most widespread given the poor quality of the land, it has also been possible to see how the «verdeja» grape vineyard was gaining extension at the expense of the «sernas» lands of Medina del Campo since the sixteenth century. Thanks to this production of wine, Nava del Rey became the most populated town in the Medina del Campo region in the mid-eighteenth century. Likewise, it has been possible to quantify the exact amount of wine that was produced annually in Nava del Rey, a quantity that placed it as one of the largest producers of the entire North Plateau.
