In this work, a series of gas separation membranes has been obtained through the partial pyrolysis of mixtures of aromatic copolyimides (PIs), in which one of the aromatic comonomers is 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid (DABA), and aliphatic-aromatic copolyimides, which have poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) groups in the aliphatic part and carboxyl groups in the aromatic part (PI-PEOs). These polymer mixtures could be processed as membranes by a casting method, which were then thermal treated to selectively remove the ethylene oxide units: at temperatures below 400 ºC in an inert atmosphere and below 300ºC when an air atmosphere was used. This thermal treatment produced cross-linked materials with good mechanical properties to withstand the high pressures used in the gas separation processes. In addition, all membranes showed excellent gas separation properties, low physical ageing and high resistance to plasticization
