The use of recycled PET (rPET) in high value-added applications, as part of a composite, can provide a solution to the current environmental problems arising from the accumulation or incineration of plastic waste at the end of its useful life. The main difficulty presented by this polymer (rPET) is its high viscosity. This fact compromises the impregnation of the fibers during the consolidation process resulting materials with poor mechanical properties. For this reason, the present research aims to study the different ways of rheological modification of rPET (thermomechanical, hydrolytic, chemical and physical) that allow achieving an optimum balance between viscosity and mechanical properties. The main results showed that both the physical and chemical pathways are capable of reducing viscosity without compromising the mechanical properties, achieving thermoplastic composites, via pultrusion in powder, at the same level as current thermoset composites used in vital sectors such as the automotive industry
