José Ignacio Linazasoro (San Sebastián 1947). His efforts have mainly focused on designing public buildings and public spaces, specifically those in historic sites with a noteworthy preexistence. Some of his works have been particularly acclaimed, .e.g., The Library of the National Distance Learning University (UNED) and the Cultural Centre of the Piarists in Lavapiés, both in Madrid, and the Department Council and Congress Centre in Troyes. Notwithstanding its international prominence, the practice he founded maintains a predominant craftsmanship, which guarantees a meticulous attention to the intrinsic challenges of building design and construction. He has received different awards and prices, e.g., Iberfad (1996), COAM (2001), Biennial of Spanish Architecture in different years (1992, 1994, 1998, 2000), The European Brick Award (2006), The Piranesi Prix de Rome (2014), or the Luis Moreno Mansilla (2015). Among his written work stand out the monographs in Modern Architecture Catalogues (G.Gili 1989), Progettare e Construire (Casa dell’ Architettura 2007) and J.I.Linazasoro (Casa dell’Architettura 2012) and the books “Permanencias y arquitectura urbana” (G.Gili 1978) “ El proyecto clasico en arquitectura” (G.Gil 1980) in French as “Le project classique en architecture (Mardaga 1984) and “La memoria del orden” (Abada 2013) in Italian as “La memoria dell’ ordine” (LetteraVentidue 2015).We really appreciate José Ignacio Linazasoro´s welcome to his practice Linazasoro&Sánchez in the Salamanca quarters in Madrid. It is in the meeting room that we discuss about memory, time, history and pre-existence…
