Abstract

The opinion of six strabismus experts is requested in regards to the clinical case of a child diagnosed with congenital paresis of the right superior oblique muscle at 2 years and 9 months of age, having undergone 2 surgeries by a colleague at age 4, and another surgery by the author, 9 months later. They are informed of all previous examinations, surgical data, and the current examination results. And they are asked for their opinion concerning the following topics/questions: 1. Brief summary of the case. 2. With the data provided, what surgery would you have performed as the first option at 4 years of age? 3. And, at 5 years of age, after the 2 previous surgeries? 4. What do you think is the reason for the patient´s evolution after the last surgery performed? 5. Would you opérate again or would you continue following the patient? 6. In case of deciding to do surgery at present or in the future: Would you carry out or request any other tests? What would your surgical approach be? Would you consider any perioperative data to change or decide the surgical protocol? 7. What conclusion or conclusions should we learn from this clinical case? The full comments of all the panelists are presented and a final summary is given.
