Abstract
The «Splash of Water» motif has attracted attention since the nineteenth century. The similarity between the passage of Tóruigheacht Dhiarmada agus Ghráinne, The Pursuit of Diarmaid and Gráinne, and the Tristan incident has been the principal focus. In this paper we suggest some parallels in Greek mythology and indicate their ritual implications. Some traditions of Celtic countries related to holy wells are of special interest here, rites concerning water and stone reinforced for a mythic or religious account, in a way a courtship involving water
