Resumo
After analysing the “war of numbers” in the most widely distributed studies regarding the impact of automation on employment, the study focuses its attention on the comparative evolution of the parameters given by technology, productivity and working conditions. The "paradox" or "puzzle" of productivity and the "fallacy of the fixed amount of work" give way to a reflection on the most notable effect of technology in this ongoing revolution: polarisation or socio-labour segmentation, explained through the "Polanyi paradox". The conclusions obtained serve to defend a set of basic premises when proposing normative intervention at the international and state level, where the role of a labour and educational reform is evident.
