Abstract

The intensive use of digital devices and the Internet has allowed many of its users, particularly young people, to no longer access media content as mere consumers, but also as producers. This context enables the development of various competencies in the university classroom. This study analyzes how audiovisual creation contributes to the development of competencies in initial teacher training and what kind of relationships are established between the competencies acquired and those established in the university curriculum. At the same time, it investigates how students’ previous multimedia experiences influence the audiovisual works they produce during their training as future teachers. The use of a concurrent triangulation method offers more complete information on the process of acquiring competencies by combining the comprehensive nature of the qualitative analyses with the descriptive nature of the quantitative ones. The results indicate that students find greater difficulty in technical aspects and admit having acquired greater competence in the development of technical skills, critical and educational attitudes, innovation, creative thinking and collaborative work.
