In dehesa, fertilization has been traditionally carried out with phosphorus due to the importantyield increase it produces. Fertilization with other nutrients has not produced a so positiveeffect or has not been so intensively studied on dehesa pasture. For this reason, the main aimof the study was to evaluate the influence of the incorporation of several nutrients on the soil (P,K, Ca, Mg, Na and S), in dfferent combinations, on biomass production, species composition andnutritive value of dehesa pasture. The study was carried out in a tipical dehesa located inExtremadura, in two areas: one with natural pastures and other with sown pastures. Eight surface-broadcast fertilization treatments were done in autumn. Two grazing periods were simulatedby cutting the pasture in middle-spring and late-spring. Several treatments produced increaseson the dry matter, even two times the production obtained in the not-fertilized controls.Nevertheless, theses increases did not keep relationship with phosphorus or potassium doses. The same treatments also produced a significant increment in the nutritive value of pasture, mainlydue to the increment of the legume fraction treatment produced.
