Abstract

Selection of grass species is very important in the development of a golf course. This selectionmust depend on quality features and population dynamics according to the seasonal andenvironmental conditions of the course. The study was conducted during 2009-2010 in GolfGuadiana in Badajoz. The current species were studied and analyzed in relation with their occurrencefrequency, in comparison with those initiately seeded. It was analyzed the effect of the area(green, tee, rough and fairway) and the moment of the year (sampling in 6 months) on the percentageof occurrence of each species. The results showed that the area and the period of theyear, as well as the interaction, had a significant influence in the grass communities recorded, showing a different effect of the moment depending on the area considered. Among these areas, the rough and green and the month of August and October were those which had a greater effecton those communities. However, in the areas with the most carefully management, greenand tee, the most valuable species kept a good presence, even in the worst period.
