Abstract

The use of ICT by students with intellectual disabilities is a must if you want to work for inclusion (also digital), and teacher education becomes a prerequisite for it. For this reason, in the RED-DIS Research Group of the University of Burgos, has started a research project, in collaboration with the Centre for Special Education "Fray Pedro Ponce de Leon" (Burgos, Spain) for the ICT use and some specific applications used by the students of the Center in their educational activities. The research was developed in the following phases and activities: • Before start, we have submitted an ad-hoc questionnaire to estimate the knowledge and ability by teachers of the center to use these technologies. The results have oriented the next task. • We have realized an introductory course on ICT and people with intellectual disabilities. The course goals were: social software, tools for creating teaching materials, specific software for students with intellectual disabilities (some of these were developed by our research group), applications for the improvement of communication and the use of social network for educational purposes. • Continuous activity monitoring and consulting for the teachers, to make the application of the knowledge acquired in the classroom. The research is still ongoing, however, the first results clearly show that the introduction of ICT in teaching activities of the center has generated a growing interest on the part of teachers and greater ICT use in their classroom activities.
