Zusammenfassung

The scarce attention paid to most Diocesan archives when studying the Spanish Second Republic becomes total neglect in the case of Diocesan archives in the territory of Castilla y León. This neglect makes particularly difficult a correct understanding of a period characterized both by the general tense relationships existing between civil and ecclesiastical powers and by the enormous diversity found in case studies. Such diversity is even greater in a territory as large as Castilla y León, where there are eleven Diocesan archives as varied as the Diocesan realities they witness to. Affected, in fact, by rather heterogeneous access policies and depositaries of a documentation in very different levels of cataloguing, they are also a mirror of Diocesan situations much more dissimilar in its origin than previously thought.
