Résumé

Tuberculosis infection is infrequently diagnosed in sheep. Most reports arefrom single individual cases or flock outbreaks. However, in Spain severaloutbreaks have been reported recently, all of which had epidemiologicallinks with tuberculosis infected cattle herds or goat flocks. A total of897 sheep suspected of being infected with tuberculosis and belongingto 23 flocks cohabiting with tuberculosis infected cattle herds and/orgoats were tested between 2009 and 2013 in Galicia (northwest Spain),using pathological, immunological and molecular techniques. Of these,50.44% were positive using culture, 83.23% by histopathology and24.92%, 4.86% and 59.42% using a single intradermal tuberculin test(SITT) Interferon-γ and ELISA, respectively. Results suggest that in thecircumstances to those in our study, sheep can be infected from cattleand goat and may be considered as a potential source of tuberculosis.SITT and ELISA are recommended as the simplest and most costeffectiveinitial approaches for the diagnosis of tuberculosis in sheepunder field conditions.
