Resumen

The Lozoya River drainage basin is a tectonic depression (pop-down) located at the Middle-Eastern part of the Spanish Central System (Community of Madrid-Guadalajara). The basin morphology, the drainage network density and the fluvial incision show peculiar features suggesting lithostructural controls and a complex landscape evolution during the Quaternary. In order to characterize and classify the river incision diversity we employed multivariate techniques applying GIS and statistical tools. We combined substrate lithological information with morphometric variables, such us elevation, slope and SL index (Length Stream-Gradient index). These techinques have allowed us to reclassify the Lozoya basin in 5 classes which reflect the fluvial net morphology and characterized the complex incision in this region.
