Resumen

Introduction: the ageing of population is often accompanied by a strong feeling of loneliness. The analysis of different interventions using information and communication technologies (ICT) is justified in order to assess whether its results are better than those derived from traditional approaches aimed at reducing this feeling of loneliness in elderly people. Objectives: to consider the deployment of ICTs in elderly people both before and after the pandemic caused by COVID-19, as well as the factors associated with its use. Method: to review bibliography regarding the main scientific databases in Spanish and English over the last decade, posing as a research question whether there are interventions aimed at reducing the feeling of loneliness in elderly people through ICTs. Results: there are several factors that may hinder the adoption of ICTs by elderly people, as well as an intergenerational gap that may make them feel alienated from the new digital world, which increases their psychological and emotional vulnerability. Conclusions: ICTs have emerged as the most important asset for maintaining social contact during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has also shown that elderly people have acquired new technological habits from its beginning.
