Abstract

Study on event information and society during the Restoration (1875-1923) using as main source and object of study, two newspapers belonging to modern press: "La Vanguardia" and "La Unión Mercantil ". The extension of mass society and the media that characterize it, favors the use of the press as a substantial resource for the Social History, History of Mentalities , etc. . Through a quantitative analysis of these news, we approach the evolution of the same ones in the established period, as well as to the Spanish society in it lower classes appreciating commom social conflicts, tensions in a changing world, etc.; allowing us an approximation to a traditionally voiceless segment of society. Also, the focus is on who are the protagonists and the absent, the degrees of visibility in the public and private areas as well as the relationships established and the treatment given to each one; at the same time performing an interpretive analysis of the information from an interdisciplinary point of view on the basis of the Social History.
