Zusammenfassung
Some voices claim that the twenty-first century commenced in 1989, the year the Berlin Wall, symbol of major social, political and economic changes, came down and the start of the boom in telecommunications and the digital revolution. A new «virtual class» has emerged: digital nomads who believe that new technologies will change lives by dematerialising them and channelling them to a post-human future. This social class has combined the New Left’s libertarian anarchism with the New Right’s market neoliberalism. Its mode of expression is a post-modern and neo-Baroque aesthetic and it is undergoing a crisis at the onset of the twenty-first century with phenomena such as terrorism and immigration, which has forced it to reconsider the meaning of life in «real time».
