Abstract
Epigraphy is an advertising resource used since Antiquity and inherited by the Church. Cathedrals use inscriptions to spread Christian doctrine and the truths of faith among the faithful by means of images and texts. There are two examples of this in the cathedral of León: the sepulchres, through which the figure of the bishop is extolled; and the retrochoir, where Divine revelation is transmitted through a complex iconographic-epigraphic programme.
