Abstract

Concept maps have been used in Applied Chemical Kinetics and AppliedThermodyinamics subjects as an effective teaching-learning tool for the developingof some fundamental concepts of these subjects (specific skills) and of certaingeneral skills such as the independent learning, the capacity of analysis andsynthesis, the literature search and the analysis and decision-making.In this work some examples of concept maps made by the students and othersconstructed by professors to synthesize the main concepts of these subjects haveshown. In addition, an evaluation with the results of the application of concept maps isincluded, related to development of general and specific skills, taking into accountthe opinion of both (students and professors). Concept maps, suitably used, havedemonstrated to be an effective teaching and learning strategy centered in thestudent and that allows and facilitates the harmonic development of all the formativedimensions of the student, not only the intellectuals
