Abstract

Carbonylation reactions carried outwith either the known η3-allylpalladium complexes or with η1-η2-enylpalladium complexes, formed as intermediates at low temperatures, give β,γ-unsaturated esters such as (IV), (X), and (XI) or β-aryl methyl esters such as (VIII) and (XIV), respectively. It is concluded that the η3-allyl complexes are not formed from the η1-η2-enyl complexes during the carbonylation process.
