Abstract

In his novel Immortality, Milan Kundera deals with the subject of the adaptation oj the noveljor the cinema. He develops a series of strategies to render impossible the adaptation oj his novel jor the cinema, as had happened with his previous work, The Unbearable Líghtiness ofBeing. Nevertheless, only the expansive representation ofthe world ofthe author as is common to many of his novels, guarantees that such an adaptation is impossible. The cinema, like the novel, has a capacity to represents the world oj its characters but the novel, unlike the cinema, enjoys a more unique position in its representation of the world of the author.
