Zusammenfassung
Weaning is one of the most critical moments in pigs productive live cycle. Postweaningdiarrhoea (PWD) is a multifactorial disease affecting piglets at this phase, causing growth impairment and economic problems. Antibiotics (Abs) and therapeuticZinc Oxide (ZnO) cannot be used anymore as preventive measures to controlPWD outbreaks. Previous studies have shown the influence of Abs and ZnOin microbiome composition, which is being regarded a one of the possible importantfactors implicated in colonization resistance against Escherichia coli, themain etiological agent associated to this disease. In this study, the microbiomecomposition of 5 farms using ZnO regularly in the two first weeks post weaning, and 5 farms not using it were sequenced. Clean rooms environmental sampleswere collected on the day of weaning (0 day post weaning – dpw), as well as faecalsamples at 0, 7 and 14dpw. Regarding type of sample and day post weaning, microbiome analysis composition revealed major differences in alpha and betadiversity parameters, as well as in species composition. ZnO showed no effectsin diversity indices, having a slight effect in microbial composition across type ofsamples and day post weaning variables.
