Abstract

Injuries to the triangular fibrocartilage complex of the carpus (TFCC) are one of the most common causes of ulnar pain in the wrist joint. Symptomatology includes localized pain in the ulnar area, swelling, decreased range of motion of supination-pronation of the forearm and joint instability. The TFCC is a stabilizing structure of the wrist joint and more specifically the distal radioulnar joint, also acting as a shock absorber of the load of the ulnocarpian or ulthocarpal joint. This complex can be injured by degenerative or traumatic causes (radial or ulnar fractures, impaction syndrome or injuries to the ligaments of the wrist joint). The initial treatment of TFCC lesions is generally conservative: immobilization of the wrist and forearm, modification of activity, prescription of analgesics, physiotherapy and sometimes injection of corticosteroids. If this fails, surgical treatment is carried out. We describe the case of a 48-year-old patient who went to the emergency room after falling with hand support. She presented pain in the wrist along with significant inflammation and limited mobility in the ranges of radial deviation, ulnar deviation and prone supination. After several complementary tests, she was diagnosed with partial injury to the triangular carpal ligament. We will see the treatment performed and the importance in her recovery from magneto field therapy.
