Abstract

Wood is a structural anisotropic material whose tensile strength in the perpendicular to grain direction is far below under the rest of its resistant characteristics. For this reason, the behaviour of the structural elements, where this effort appears, can jeopardize the whole structure. A very common case, where this situation appears, are beams with reduced supports. In these cases, the use of reinforcements, just like rod with washers and nuts, is necessary. The aim of this work is to study the behaviour of these elements, and its improvement when this kind of reinforcement is used. Specially the work is focused in the effects of variables just like the force in the rod, the rod separation or the value of the reduction in the support.
