Abstract
Far from the usual conception that links the notion of death to mystery, Walter Benjamin suggests that veils and appearances belong to the sphere of life and that death, in contrast, plays the role of interrupting the logic of appearances. In this work, we aim to show that his idea of death as interruption, caesura or paralysis is not a superfluous element in Benjamin’s thought. On the contrary, it determines his conception of criticism in the aesthetic sphere –as art criticism– and also in the realms of knowledge and history.
